DUR/DUO OFFICE SURVEY
Fellow Postmasters,
The Lakeland District has been the first District in the Nation to implement the Delivery Unit Relocation (DUR) process.
This process was first promoted as a way to deploy underutilized clerks, putting the right people in the right places. It removed the rural (and city) routes from one office and placed the routes in another office. The clerk(s) would be excessed to another location. The process was projected to save millions of dollars, maintain service and prove transparent to the customer.
This process is going to be expanded nationwide. The name will change to Delivery Unit Optimization (DUO).
The majority of PMs did not have the opportunity to supply input on the implementation process in their own office. From the date we became aware that this process was moving forward, the postmaster organizations requested involvement of the postmasters from the affected offices (gaining and losing).
Considering the process has been in place from 18 to 6 months ago, it should now be more apparent on how well the operation is going. I am asking your input.
As this process moves into its new title of DUO, postmasters who are experiencing this can provide both the positive and constructive feedback with explanation.
NAPUS will move forward and submit your suggestions and concerns in order to make it more workable for affected Postmasters. Tell what is working, and what is not working.
I ask that you to use your office's specific situation; I understand no two operations are the same.
